Pretty sight with the river
We had planned to follow the Alaska Highway to Ft. Nelson, but the storm clouds were heavier to the west closer to the Rocky Mountains so we remained well to the east of the highway.

First sighting of the Alaska highway
From Ft St. John to Ft. Nelson, we circumnavigated as necessary to remain clear of clouds and rain showers. We encounter slight carburetor icing that causes a momentary miss of the steady running engine (apply a little carb heat and things smooth out)

Let's get thru here before the clouds meet the mountains
Passing along the route and as we neared our Ft. Nelson destination, the clouds began to drop lower to the surrounding mountains, but we scooted underneath as we approached the Ft. Nelson airport.

Made it to Fort Nelson
After calling the hotel, a van picks us up driven by a young man accompanied by his girlfriend. We learned that Ft. Nelson is noted for its toothpick manufacturing, perhaps the largest toothpick producer in Canada. After checking in to our room, we went down to eat before the dining room closed. One thing I had trouble getting used to was how late it gets and is still daylight. Bud & Jack went swimming while I watched TV and they later went for a walk around the town. To be sure that we have tickets to the Gaslight Follies in Dawson tomorrow night, Bud calls to reserve us a spot. Total flying time from Calgary to Fort Nelson is 7.6 hours.
